Advising and editing for med school application

The 2022 medical school application cycle is coming to a close and you did not get the results you wanted. If you find yourself in this position, you are probably reevaluating your reasons for even wanting to become a physician: thinking about how hard you worked throughout college and how badly you have always wanted to be a doctor. So, now what? Book a free discovery meeting with Rosette Pathways and let us help you come up with a workable plan to gain admission into med school this next cycle. Our reapplicants’ high success rate speaks for itself with 100% of our reapplicants being admitted in the following cycle.

Thinking about reapplying to med school?

At Rosette Pathways, we relish the opportunity to help students rebrand themselves and reapply to medical school. This is one of our specialties. We assess the med school applicant holistically to determine the best course of action, from their writing portfolio to their work and volunteer experience more broadly. Perhaps more clinical experience, volunteering, or shadowing is needed; or maybe they need to retake the MCAT. Maybe it has been a while since they were in a formal classroom and schools have questions about their readiness for the rigor of medical school classes. Where did they get med school interviews? Did anyone coach them before the med school interview? Did the interview hold them back? They may have interviewed at some good schools, but never got off the waitlist.

AMCAS application

Ideally, we work with clients right from the start so they only have to apply once. The reality, however, is that not all of our clients learn about us the first time to avail themselves of our valuable resources. When we meet with a reapplicant, we focus on determining how to ensure that they are accepted and do not have to apply to med school a third time. We provide our best advice, drawing on Stephanie and Debra’s experience and expertise to guide the candidate through the med school application process. This can mean not applying right away in order to address weaknesses that we have identified. It is in our best interest to help you get in, so we offer an honest and realistic assessment of each client’s chances without making any guarantee (because in the world of admissions, nothing is guaranteed).

We understand that the intense application process is costly, both financially and emotionally. Rosette Pathways provides additional resources in the form of our tight-knit community that supports our clients and keeps them motivated to produce the strongest med school application possible. Seeing friends get into med school while only receiving rejections can leave one feeling alienated and embarrassed. We read the essays with an eye towards exorcizing negativity, such as making excuses or sounding apologetic; a heavy tone can depress the reader. Remember, you want to do precisely the opposite. The medical admissions committee should feel your excitement and transfer that excitement to you!

Rosette Pathways focuses on presenting each reapplicant as likable and unique, an individual who medical schools want to invest in. At the end of our initial consultation, we offer Rosette Pathways’ cri de coeur: let’s get you into med school!

ACCOMAS application

What are some common mistakes that we see when we assess reapplicants?

They did not cast a wide net with a broad school list (too many high reach schools)

They did not address issues on the application that might raise red flags to an admission committee.

The writing is weak, whether that means the essays are all “telling” and not “showing” or they did not choose the appropriate content.

The writing does not reveal the applicant’s personality or comes across as generic.

They applied late in the cycle and did not turn around their secondaries in a timely manner.

They went on vacation during a critical time in the application.

They did not sufficiently prepare for interviews. Out of our ten past clients that we worked with last cycle, every single one received an interview and ultimately an acceptance to med school.

They did not apply to DO schools. We recommend that all students consider applying to both DO and MD schools because it gives you more options.
