What is Rosette?
To come up with a name for our company, we sought one that embodied our mission. We chose “rosette” because its many layers of meaning encapsulate what our firm is about: helping clients create a rosette of their life that takes them down their desired path. Today, the rosette most commonly refers to a pleated ribbon, a congratulatory award that serves as a badge of honor. Since we celebrate each client’s success as our own, it seems only appropriate to take it as our name as we guide our clients to their own badge of honor, the white coat they are awarded when they begin medical school!
In delving deeper into the word rosette, which literally translates as “little rose,” we found that its history goes back 5000 years to Mesopotamia, where stylized carvings of flowers featured as decorations in architecture and sculpture.
Perhaps the rosette’s most notable association is with the Rosetta Stone. During the Napoleonic invasion of Egypt, French soldiers in the town of Rosetta discovered the stone with ancient writing in three different languages. The Rosetta Stone eventually provided historians the key that unlocked Egyptian hieroglyphs. As seasoned guides, we do the same for our clients by unlocking the medical school application’s mysteries.
Intrigued by the geometric harmony in some rosettes, which are also mandalas, we selected a rosette mandala for our logo because it represents “the flower of life,” the cycle of birth and rebirth. We view our own work as part of this cycle, positioning future healers to pursue their calling.
Confirmation of this “flower of life” association ultimately led us to the “Rosette Nebula,” a cloud of dust in the galaxy whose shape resembles a rosette. Composed of clusters of stars, the Rosette Nebula can be described as a site of birth and rebirth.
